Now we all get to watch the Democratic Party take exactly the wrong message from the Massachusetts results... Rahm & the Beltway will insist on moving mushily to the right—not in a firmer, clearer, more principled direction. Tentativeness, equivocation, playing too nice and too safe are what got Obama, Reid and Pelosi into this mess. (Oh, and getting rid of Dean at the DNC didn't help. Who's Tim Kaine again?) The electorate isn't rejecting the 2008 platform, but rather rejecting the lack of gumption, dexterity and tenacity displayed by the Dems in 2009.
As Twitterer Dave Anthony sardonically put it: “Obama's policy of being hands off on everything is really effective.” Unless they flash a bit more of the Spirit of ’08 and get the economy turning around fast, Dems like Scott Murphy (who barely squeaked in to begin with) are Toast in ’10.
