In an earlier post, this site provided a map and chronology of five major fires, all of which resulted in devastating property losses in the 9H corridor running from 66 to Falls Road.
A reader wrote in to say that there have also been several other fires in the past few years just over the Ghent/Stockport line on Knitt Road. Knitt connects to Falls Road, and runs about a mile west of the TCI site on Falls Industrial Park Road. The reader is working on getting additional details.
So far, evidence has turned up of two of these (a shed fire in 2011, and a house fire in 2008 which required a resident to jump from her 2nd story window), but it appears there may have been at least one or two other fires.
If anyone has information on other fires in the West Ghent/east Stockport area in recent memory, please don’t hesitate to email me at this address, so that the fire map and timeline can be updated. General tips, specific memories and links to published reports would all be useful. Comments can of course also be added to this post.
It could be coincidental, but it seems unusual that so many catastrophic fires fires are all clustered together in this part of the County, especially when the Amanda's Fireplace fire was deemed an arson, without a known culprit.
