To commemorate the fifth anniversary of the victory over St. Lawrence Cement today, and to highlight the ecological and restoration value of Hudson’s South Bay, we are releasing today the above aerial rendering created by Steering Committee members Bob Mechling and Peter Jung.
A larger version can be seen by clicking the image above, or by downloading it as a PDF file here. The dark blue areas indicate open, unobstructed water, whereas the light blue areas indicate marshier portions obstructed by phragmites and other growth. The Bay is a Federally-protected Class I wetland.
Accompanying the visual is a news release from Save the South Bay which details Daniels’ stunning ruling five years ago, and how it has been all but ignored in the City's current Draft Local Waterfront Revitalization Plan. A copy of the release can be obtained in PDF format by clicking here.
